Survive and Thrive

As an advocate of work/life balance for nearly 20 years, necessitated by working 100 hours weekly, 3 countries per week, with no life of my own, I believe in sharing the merits of life in #balance. I believe that our biggest goal for 2021 and beyond is to #Survive and #Thrive! How about you?

In a time when our work and home lives have intertwined like never before, do we really ever turn off our devices? Do we set boundaries, or do we let the world of connectivity overwhelm us? If you are open to setting boundaries, I suggest the following:

  • Presenteeism – You know that there are those who take up space, but who are not present in the moment. When you are working from home, be present. When you are homeschooling your kids, be present. When you are on those continuous-feed Zoom calls, be present. Work hard when you are working, and relax when it is high time for social and family encounters.
  • Prioritization – Everything does not have a “now” deadline. Separate your must-do list from your to-do list and share the accomplishment of crossing off what has been done and look forward to more must-do’s tomorrow
  • Self-care – We all have responsibilities, some more than others. We are all on the same journey, but perhaps in different boats or cars. Schedule time for yourself (in your calendar) and take that time to rest, relax, reset your battery, and be good to yourself.

If you are employed, be grateful, but take time for yourself. If you are freelancing, job hunting, working from home, self-employed, or finding yourself, take the time for balance.  Your greatest task for the remainder of 2021 is to Survive and Thrive. Answer this question, “Do you work to live, or live to work?” What’s your story?

Let’s talk stress numbers…

What are those numbers?

  • The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that 60-70% of all disease and illness is stress-related.
  • Approximately 75  to 90% of physician-office visits are stress-related.
  • According to the American Institute of Stress, a whopping $300 billion dollars per year is spent on job stress, including absenteeism, turnover, diminished productivity, and medical/legal/insurance costs.

What about you?

If you are busy with a demanding job and family and friends who seek your time and attention, you are blessed, but only if you can handle it. Consider the stressors in your own life, including the things that deplete your energy and bring you down.

When your devices are on low battery, do you plug them in? When your vehicle needs fuel, do you fill the tank? What about your most vulnerable commodity – your body – what do you do for it?

You may be a workaholic like I was; I thought the day was thirty hours long. I tried to fit a schedule into each of those hours to achieve life to the fullest, and my strategy did not work! As one who has reinvented myself professionally throughout my career, I am aware of the challenges of work/life balance. I worked long hours and I always felt as if something was missing…and that something was family time. Balancing a career or business with your personal life is possible.  Are You Ready to Recharge Your Battery? offers actions you can take to build the life and career you want, need, and deserve.

We need to recharge- so get set, get ready, and let’s go. We’ll explore the process of engaging in life and work, prepare for change and a charge, manage time and resources, and reinvent ourselves.  The process begins here and now, with content and action steps at the end of each section that empower to act, recover, and restore to a full charge.

Now is the time to enjoy Are You Ready to Recharge Your Battery? and then pay it forward by sharing the message with your peers through an amazing Amazon or Good Reads review. For your electronic copy, contact me now.

Launching….what?

ARE YOU READY FOR A WOWTCOME™?

ARE YOU READY TO JOIN MY LAUNCH TEAM FOR…

The New Book?

If you answered “Yes” to any of those questions, launch with me!  You might ask, “Launching, what does that mean, what are my responsibilities, how may I help, who shall I tell…”

My new book, Are You Ready to Recharge Your Battery? Secrets to work/life balance was just released. My marketing team created a launch strategy six weeks out that would propel my book to the top of the charts. Their efforts included social media advertising, promotional campaigns, promo videos, outreach, and so much more.

The field is crowded; many new releases fall into the same category, limiting the potential for exposure.

Each year a huge number of new book titles are written and published (https://www.theifod.com/how-many-new-books-are-published-each-year-and-other-related-books-facts/). According to Stephen Hawking in his recent book Brief Answers to the Big Questions, he states that “if you stacked the new books being published next to each other, at the present rate of production you would have to move at ninety miles an hour just to keep up with the end of the line.”

How, then, does a book “launch?”  How do we spread the word, join the team, promote the efforts, disseminate the message, and create energy?  I’ve launched, and multiple book signings are scheduled this month and next.  Enjoy this video promo, and let’s get this launch going…  https://www.dropbox.com/s/legooz8osegotz5/sharonweinstein%20_overwhelm%20book%20promo.mp4?dl=0

Tell me more…

It’s time to get SMART and detox!

You have a plethora of SMART devices and apps that facilitate your life’s work, keep you on track and on time, turn on the lights and TV, and shut them down.  Wouldn’t it be great if you had an app or device that allowed you to master self-care the smart way?

As a business owner, you work long hours and probably take little time for yourself. The time is now to get SMART, and start by forming a digital detox (yes from those amazing devices and apps that you cannot live without).  Try these five easy steps to regaining your time and energy, while getting SMART about self-care:

  • Think about the communication tools you use and select one!  Then, request your clients to use that one to communicate with you.
  • Set parameters for time online; you do it for your kids, and you should do it for yourself.
  • Schedule breaks for yourself- even 15 minutes per day will make a huge difference in how you feel and your performance.
  • Add mindfulness to your walking and eating routines.
  • Make a gratitude list- think about people, places, and things that bring you joy.

SMART devices and apps do not ensure smart use of your time. It’s time to get smart by identifying those things that must be done and those that can wait. Identify the groups to which you must belong, and those for which you must volunteer your time and efforts. Complete your work and take a break! Even though there is so much to do and so little time, take time for yourself and make being SMART and in balance a part of your daily routine! You will thank yourself, and those around you will thank you too.
